Follow your curiosity with Saturday Academy!  Enroll in a class this spring!

Openings are currently available for the spring term classes of Saturday Academy at Oregon State University.  More information about courses, topics, dates and registration can be found online at http://academy.engr.oregonstate.edu, by emailing saturday.academy@oregonstate.edu, or by calling (541) 737-1822.

Saturday Academy is a non-profit extra-curricular program offering exciting classes, workshops, and camps to connect middle and high school students in the Mid-Willamette Valley with experts in science and technological fields.  Saturday Academy is hosted by the College of Engineering and College of Science at Oregon State University and works in cooperation with local businesses and professionals. Small fees are charged for classes and we provide tuition assistance for eligible families.

Middle School Classes:
Explore the Oregon Hatchery Research Center
April 5, 9am – 2pm
Get an inside look at the Oregon Hatchery Research Center in Alsea.  It’s not just your typical fish production facility!  It’s designed to study differences among wild salmon, hatchery salmon, and steelhead to create better practices for Oregon hatcheries. Learn about fish internal anatomy through dissection, including how to tell the gender of juvenile fish. See creatures that live on and in fish through a microscope.

Exploring Engineering
April 11, 9am – 12pm
Get a behind-the-scenes look at how Hewlett Packard creates new and exciting products and experience what it is like to be an engineer.  Join us for hands-on activities where you will learn scientific methods and engineering fundamentals. 

Carbon-Free Cooking
May 17, 10am – 12pm
Learn the basics of how to cook mouth-watering summer meals outdoors using only the sun’s energy. This class will give a brief overview of solar cooking, outline the equipment required, and demonstrate the simple skills needed.  If the sun shines, you’ll have an opportunity to sample your own solar cuisine!
