Art at Jefferson
- Artist-in-Residence
- We're starting a new year here in a few weeks, and with it comes some
new creative projects and some new planning needs. The first of which
is booking a new artist-in-residence perhaps for February. I am curious
if any of you have some ideas, artists, etc in mind for the next residency?
I would welcome your input as I look into which artists are available
for the time the teachers open up. We usually have to book well in advance,
so there isn't much time for this discussion, but I thought it was worth
turning over a few new thoughts before we booked anyone. Please email
me back your input, especially if you know for sure an artist who is
interested in a two-week-all-school-residency here at Jefferson. Also,
let me know If you are willing to help work with or coordinate the residency
when we do make our choice.

- Wildlife Steward Summit
- We will also be getting started on our Wildlife Steward Summit decorations
and logo drawings for the Keepersof the Creek Project with Patti Warner.
The Summit is April 23rd, but the projects are a bit intensive, so you
might want to get a jump on them after we get back from Winter Break.
Patti would like us to try to create a canvas scroll for each room,
with designs relating to the area of study assigned to each room on
them. (Contact your teacher, or Kristin Erickson to find out what theme
your classroom is doing.) We will display the scrolls @ school on the
23rd, when schools and guest speakers tour OUR SCHOOL AS HOST SCHOOL
that day. Earth Day. And, we will also use many of our creations in
the Art & Science Night festivities a few weeks later. If we all
do a little, then no one has to do a lot!
- Sprucing up a classroom
- Siobhan Clancy-Burns spoke to me last week and mentioned that Allan
Miller from the new counseling lab had contacted her about "sprucing
up the room." If anyone would like to be in on this, please contact
Siobhan or myself, and we can brainstorm some inexpensive ideas to dress
the place up. (Curtains, pillows, murals,?.) I had spoken to Allan,
and he is interested exploring art therapy, and perhaps an art @ lunch
area, so I'll keep you posted on those projects.
Silent
Auction
- If anyone is interested in taking home a piece of furniture to "refinish"
or "creatively re-invent" to be sold at the Silent Auction,
or if enough participate, a separate "Furnishing the Arts"
sale at a later date, please contact me. We have furniture, as I'm sure
many of you do at home, that still has life left in it, and could be
reinvigorated with a playful bit of paint of stain and some elbow grease,
or recovered with a new piece or fabric or some tiling! We have some
donated paints, fabrics, bookshelves, stools, chairs, tables, etc. If
this sounds like a project you or your family would enjoy or be willing
to do, please contact me.
- GET INVOLVED - We Need Your Help
- I just finished painting a star for the Art@Adams Silent Auction,
at Iovino's, as did many artists around the community, (although, out
of loyalty, I do not attend their brunch fund-raiser or buy any of the
pieces.) Denise Gorthy and I were talking about this and what we could
do here at Jefferson. Adams has an incredible volunteer base right now
and is doing a fabulous job raising awareness and money for the arts
in their school and in the community. Many of their ideas came straight
from OUR example. So... along those lines, I would really appreciate
it if the parent body at Jefferson stepped up a bit and CONTRIBUTED
DIRECTLY to what is happening creatively around our school.
- YOU ARE ALL VERY CREATIVE AND VERY BUSY PEOPLE.

- That is why I wanted to put these thoughts out there and let you decide
which ones you feel like you can best contribute to. In the meantime,
speed the word - spread the work. Let other parents know about the projects
and invite them to help out. Many people just don't know where they're
needed.
- THANKS EVERYONE & HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO ALL!!!
